Kim Greyber recorded his first hole-in-one on Tuesday afternoon, April 3 at Moon Brook Country Club. Greyber used a 3 rescue club to ace the 187-yard, par-3 13th while playing with his wife, Judy, and Jamie and Dylan Glatz.

The Jamestown Community Chamber of Commerce has chosen a handful of representatives from its distinguished array of businesses to be recognized for 2011 achievements. The award winners were honored during the 10th annual “Salute to Our Finest” award reception that was held on February 23rd at the Lillian Ney Renaissance Center.

Being honored are: Mike Metzger, Community Service Award; Framemasters, Retailer of the Year; the twelve Jamestown area foundations, Service to Humanity Award; Jamestown Rental Properties, Business of the Year; Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, Pride of Jamestown; Jamestown Gazette, New Business of the Year.

Last week, the day before Thanksgiving, as I was all but shut down for the long weekend here in the small basement office of Pointed Communications, a package arrived that brought out more than a simple smile. It warmed my heart and made me proud of my several decisions to buy American (and local) when I can.

Well, full disclosure, I didn’t realize what I was buying in the early 1990s when a local woman sold me my keyboard tray. It served well beyond my expectations for office gear. And when the mechanism snapped a few weeks ago, I fully expected to throw it all out and hunt for something new from an office supply box store or catalog.

Well, as a very-small-business person and native New Englander, I’m born to be thrifty. My first thought turned to, ‘could there be a replacement part.’ The mechanism had minimal markings, but included your company name. Finding the Web site and making contact all within 10 minutes led me to your friendly and reassuring voice that seemed to know exactly what I had and needed with minimal description.

Your promise to ship one right out on the honor system asking me only to send a check once I got it… well… it was too good to be true. And, again, in the New England way, I was skeptical. That is, when something sounds too good to be true…. it usually is. Which brings me back to the package and the 5-minute period after it arrived in which time I completed the installation and have been happily typing away in my very comfortable and familiar ergonomic position.

Perhaps you can imagine the relief (not just in the back and arms). It was the relief of not having to shop and make a decision on a new piece of hardware. Not having to learn a new mechanism. Not having to figure if something will fit, work, behave, be strong enough, etc. It was the relief that is was just done.

Having read more about the company on your Web site, I’m please to see you are now fully locally owned (again, albeit not for a while)… and I’m very pleased to find an American company so gracious in standing behind its products… nearly 20 years after the original sale. That is truly an All-American story. And, it’s appreciated.

USA eligible students are first time, full-time students from JCC’s service area who graduate in the top 20 percent of their high school class with a Regents diploma.
